About the Artist
Kat Nottingham is best known for her waterscape paintings in oil on canvas. Kat’s artwork reflects her reverence for the vastness, power, and fragile beauty of nature. “In each of my paintings, I try to celebrate precious, fleeting moments of beauty - a wave crashing on a rock, morning sunlight peeking through the trees, sunlight dancing across a still lake at sunrise…”
Water is a common theme throughout her work. “Water is a dynamic and ever-changing, sustaining life force. It can be calm and soothing, reflecting the sky and surroundings or revealing shapes below the surface. But it can also be powerful - full of energy and motion. My waterscape paintings celebrate these fluid moments through reflected and refracted shapes and imagery.”
Kat's contemporary representational paintings draw inspiration from her experiences as an active Minnesota outdoor enthusiast: sailing on Lake Pepin, biking the Minneapolis city trails, and hiking along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Passion and reverence for nature have inspired Kat’s involvement in climate change and water conservation advocacy. She is an active member of the Climate Generation, Friends of the Mississippi River, and The Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance. “My art celebrates nature and I hope that it fosters a greater appreciation for our fragile wetlands, lakes, rivers and oceans - sparking others to share my passion to protect these precious resources for future generations.”
